Nerikomi Porcelain
Nerikomi (marbled) is a traditonal Japanese technique in which the porcelain clay body is colored with chemical stains and oxides. The colored clay bodies are then mixed together with the degree of marbling that results being dependent on how much the clay is worked. I then roll out the marbled clay body with a rolling pin using hardwood rails as guides to reach a desired thickness. I then cut out and shape by beads from this rolled out clay, piercing the bead holes with a needle tool while the clay is still supple.

Surface Glazed Porcelain
These porcelain beads are decorated with colored glazes that I paint on the surface of the beads. I am using the beads as mini-canvases.
